A supportive and inclusive school in Scunthorpe is seeking a Pastoral Support Assistant to work with pupils who require additional emotional, social, or behavioural support. The school provides a nurturing environment focused on helping children and young people feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn. This role is available to start ASAP, with full‑time or part‑time options considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted pastoral support to pupils who may be dysregulated, anxious, or experiencing barriers to learning.
  • Support pupils on a 1:1 or small‑group basis, helping them manage emotions, build resilience, and re‑engage with learning.
  • Use calm, consistent strategies to encourage positive behaviour and support emotional regulation in line with school policies.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote confidence, wellbeing, and engagement.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to implement individual support plans, behaviour strategies, and wellbeing interventions.

Pre-requisites:

  • Experience supporting children or young people in a pastoral, behavioural, or support‑focused role within education, care, youth work, or similar settings.
  • A good understanding of social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) and how these can impact learning and behaviour.
  • Confidence using de‑escalation techniques, emotional regulation strategies, and restorative approaches.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent when supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviours.
  • Relevant qualifications such as Youth Work, Childcare, Teaching Assistant, Psychology, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
