A supportive and inclusive school in Scunthorpe is seeking a Pastoral Support Assistant to work with pupils who require additional emotional, social, or behavioural support. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted pastoral support to pupils who may be dysregulated, anxious, or experiencing barriers to learning.
- Support pupils on a 1:1 or small‑group basis, helping them manage emotions, build resilience, and re‑engage with learning.
- Use calm, consistent strategies to encourage positive behaviour and support emotional regulation in line with school policies.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote confidence, wellbeing, and engagement.
- Work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to implement individual support plans, behaviour strategies, and wellbeing interventions.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience supporting children or young people in a pastoral, behavioural, or support‑focused role within education, care, youth work, or similar settings.
- A good understanding of social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) and how these can impact learning and behaviour.
- Confidence using de‑escalation techniques, emotional regulation strategies, and restorative approaches.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent when supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviours.
- Relevant qualifications such as Youth Work, Childcare, Teaching Assistant, Psychology, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
