About the role:
We are seeking a creative Food Technology Teacher to join a supportive secondary school in the Rotherham area from September 2026. This is a full-time, fixed-term maternity cover position running from September until December 2026. The role offers an excellent opportunity for both Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced teachers to work within a welcoming and well-resourced department. The school prides itself on its inclusive ethos, strong pastoral care and commitment to providing engaging learning experiences that help students develop confidence, independence and practical life skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging Food Technology lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Prepare and organise practical lessons, ensuring health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Assess, monitor and record student progress in line with school policies.
- Differentiate learning activities to meet the needs of all students and support positive outcomes.
- Contribute positively to departmental planning and the wider school community.
Pre-requisites:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Degree or relevant qualification in Food Technology, Design Technology, Hospitality and Catering, or a related subject.
- Proven experience of teaching Food Technology within a secondary school setting.
- Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum and Food Technology programmes of study at Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging practical and theory-based lessons.
- Sound understanding of food hygiene, health and safety regulations and practical classroom management.
- Two education or school-based references.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
- Strong communication, organisational and teamwork skills.
- Suitable for both Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced teachers.
