About the role
We are seeking a dedicated SEND Classroom Practitioner to support pupils within a specialist or inclusive school setting in Retford.
The school supports children and young people with a range of special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties, and additional support needs.
This role involves working closely with teaching staff to deliver tailored learning support, moving in and out of the classroom as required, and helping pupils engage positively with their education.
This full-time role is to start ASAP with the potential to continue into the new academic year.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with SEND within the classroom and small group settings, adapting activities to suit different learning levels.
- Assist teaching staff in delivering differentiated lessons by breaking down tasks and reinforcing key learning points.
- Use a range of strategies such as visual aids, hands‑on resources, and clear instruction to support understanding and engagement.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, transitions, and positive behaviour for learning.
- Provide one‑to‑one or small group support for students working at a lower academic level.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and social development in line with pupils’ individual support plans.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and wider support staff to ensure consistent support across the school day.
Pre-requisites
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEND within a school, care, or educational setting.
- An understanding of autism, learning difficulties, and additional needs, and how these impact learning and behaviour.
- Confidence modifying and supporting learning activities to meet individual needs.
- A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach.
- Relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, SEND, or equivalent experience are desirable but not essential.
