About the role:
A nurturing and inclusive SEND school in Boston is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) working on an EYFS pathway, starting full-time in September.
The school provides highly personalised support within a calm, structured, and sensory-rich environment, focusing on developing communication, early development skills, independence, and emotional wellbeing. Staff work collaboratively to ensure every pupil can engage meaningfully through adapted, play-based, and sensory learning approaches.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the delivery of individualised, play-based and sensory learning activities appropriate to EYFS-level development.
- Work closely with teaching staff to adapt tasks, break down learning, and provide consistent support tailored to pupils with PMLD.
- Use a range of communication methods (e.g. Makaton, PECS, visuals, sensory cues) to help pupils engage and express themselves.
- Provide personal care and physical support where required, ensuring dignity and safety at all times.
- Create a calm, engaging, and structured environment, using sensory strategies to support attention, regulation, and participation.
- Encourage early developmental skills, including communication, interaction, and independence.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, responding sensitively to their needs and helping them feel safe and secure.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, particularly PMLD, EYFS, or complex needs, in school, care, or similar settings.
- Understanding of early childhood development and sensory-based learning approaches.
- Confidence in using communication strategies and differentiated support techniques to engage non-verbal or minimally verbal learners.
- A patient, compassionate, and proactive approach, with the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils.
- Relevant qualifications such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Health & Social Care, or equivalent experience.
- Willingness to support with personal care and physical needs where required.
