About the role

A specialist school in Newark dedicated to supporting children and young people with Autistic Spectrum Conditions, including those with sensory processing needs, communication differences, high anxiety, PDA‑type profiles and co‑occurring learning needs. The school places high importance on predictable routines, sensory‑friendly environments, communication systems and emotional regulation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with ASC through structured routines, visual supports, sensory regulation techniques and personalised communication approaches.
  • Work alongside teaching staff to adapt activities, simplify instructions and ensure pupils remain regulated and ready for learning throughout the day.
  • Use calm, trauma‑informed and low‑arousal practices, modelling co‑regulation and supporting pupils to manage transitions, change and moments of overwhelm.
  • Encourage communication through approaches such as PECs, visual timetables, now/next, social stories, zones of regulation and sensory integration strategies.

Pre‑requisites

  • Experience supporting pupils with ASC in specialist, mainstream, PRU or alternative settings.
  • Good knowledge of sensory regulation, communication differences and ASC‑specific approaches such as TEACCH, social communication support and low‑arousal practice.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient and consistent while providing safe, tailored support.
  • Relevant qualifications such as Level 2/3 TA, childcare, youth work, SEND training or equivalent experience.
