About the role
This Peterborough-based specialist provision supports secondary students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. The school focuses on delivering core subjects alongside essential life-skills learning, helping students build both academic confidence and independence. This role is to start as soon as possible and will continue into the new academic year.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with teaching staff to help deliver adapted and accessible lessons. This includes breaking activities into manageable steps, scaffolding learning, and reinforcing key ideas so students with SEMH needs can fully engage.
- Use calm, structured and trauma-informed strategies such as visual supports, predictable routines and hands-on activities to promote participation and focus.
- Encourage positive learning behaviours through modelling coping strategies, offering in-the-moment emotional regulation support, and using restorative approaches to re-engage students constructively.
Qualifications
- Experience supporting young people—ideally within SEMH settings, alternative provision, PRUs, mainstream schools, tutoring or youth work.
- A strong understanding of SEMH needs and how these can influence behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement in the classroom.
- Ability to explain concepts clearly, model tasks, and use varied active learning strategies to maintain engagement.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification, Youth Work, or equivalent experience).
