As a Residential Support Worker, you will support young people throughout the school day and residential routines.

This role involves moving in and out of the classroom, supporting learning activities, and helping pupils with emotional regulation, independence, and daily living skills.

The position offers flexibility with morning or evening shifts and is available on a full-time or part-time basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent, calm, and person-centred support to children and young people with severe autism and additional needs.
  • Support pupils within the classroom and learning environment, assisting them with school work that is adapted to a lower academic level.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to reinforce learning through repetition, visual supports, hands‑on activities, and structured routines.
  • Move between classroom‑based support and residential or care‑based duties as required throughout the day.
  • Help pupils with emotional regulation, transitions, and engagement in learning and daily activities.
  • Promote independence, confidence, and positive behaviour through clear boundaries and supportive guidance.
  • Support personal care, mealtime routines, and daily living tasks where required, always maintaining dignity and respect.

Pre-requisites

  • Experience supporting children or young people with autism, SEND, or complex needs within education, care, or residential settings.
  • An understanding of how autism impacts communication, behaviour, and learning, and the ability to adapt support accordingly.
  • Confidence supporting learning activities at a lower academic level using simple instructions, visual aids, and practical approaches.
  • A patient, resilient, and caring approach with strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Relevant experience or qualifications in Care, Education, Health and Social Care, Childcare, or similar (desirable but not essential).
