Justteachers are recruiting for a Secondary Teaching Assistant specialising in Behaviour Support to join a dynamic secondary school in Leeds, featuring a dedicated on-site provision for students requiring additional support. About the role:

In this role, you will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to support students who present with challenging behaviour. You will be based both within the mainstream school and the on-site provision, providing targeted interventions and tailored support to ensure students remain engaged and on track. You will play a key role in fostering a positive, structured environment where students feel supported, understood, and motivated to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with behavioural needs
  • Support pupils within the on-site provision and reintegration into mainstream classes
  • Assist in implementing behaviour management strategies and individual support plans
  • De-escalate challenging situations using calm and consistent approaches
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
  • Monitor, record, and report on student progress and behaviour
  • Encourage positive social, emotional, and academic development
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
  • Support pupils with additional needs such as SEMH, ADHD, or ASD

Pre-requisites:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged students, ideally in a behaviour support or SEMH setting
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
  • Ability to build strong, professional relationships with young people
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A proactive and flexible attitude
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, or Psychology-related) are desirable but not essential
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
