justteachers is working in partnership with a supportive and inclusive primary school to recruit a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to work within the school’s Specialist Resource Base (SRB). This is a full-time, long-term position with a September start, providing 1:1 support for a pupil with social, emotional, and mental health needs. The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping the pupil to access learning, regulate emotions, and build positive relationships within the school environment. The school is committed to providing a nurturing and structured setting where every child is supported to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with SEMH needs within the SRB and classroom environment
  • Support the pupil’s emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement with learning
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support staff to implement support strategies
  • Adapt activities and approaches to meet the individual needs of the pupil
  • Promote a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment
  • Encourage the development of social skills, confidence, and independence

Pre-requisites

  • Experience working with children, ideally within a school or SEN setting
  • Previous SEMH, SEN, or behaviour support experience is desirable
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships and respond proactively to challenging situations
  • Two recent, relevant references
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent) are desirable
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
