About the role

We are working with a welcoming and inclusive SEND school in Horncastle that provides highly tailored support for children and young people across all age groups. The school places strong emphasis on developing emotional wellbeing, independence and confidence, alongside academic progress. Learners are supported through adapted teaching approaches, structured routines and calm, nurturing learning environments. This is a flexible opportunity, available on a full-time basis to start following the May half-term.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide pastoral and emotional support to pupils with SEND, helping them feel safe, supported and ready to engage in learning.
  • Work alongside teaching staff to support differentiated learning, breaking tasks into manageable steps and scaffolding activities.
  • Reinforce key learning concepts to help pupils build confidence and re-engage with the curriculum.
  • Use structured, consistent strategies such as visual supports, clear routines, modelling and practical activities to support focus and participation.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, offering calm reassurance and guidance during periods of dysregulation or heightened anxiety.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and self‑regulation, supporting pupils to return to learning in a supportive and restorative way.
  • Build trusting relationships with pupils to promote emotional resilience, independence and positive self‑esteem.

Pre‑requisites

  • Experience supporting children or young people in schools, SEND provisions, tutoring, care, youth work or similar settings.
  • A good understanding of special educational needs and the emotional or behavioural barriers pupils may face in learning.
  • Confidence using a range of support strategies to engage pupils, explain tasks clearly and maintain focus.
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach, particularly when supporting pupils experiencing emotional or behavioural challenges.
  • Relevant training or qualifications such as Level 2 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Youth Work, or equivalent practical experience.
