Justteachers is seeking a full-time SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant specialist school starting in June 2026 in the Halifax area to cover on a long-term basis. This supportive and inclusive school is committed to nurturing pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, promoting resilience, confidence and positive relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Implement behaviour management strategies to support engagement and learning
- Use a trauma informed approach to develop confidence and social skills
- Work closely with teachers and SENCO to deliver tailored interventions
- Use de-escalation techniques to support young people in crisis
Qualifications
- Relevant Teaching Assistant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent)
- Proven experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour
- Strong knowledge of behaviour management strategies and SEMH support approaches
- Two education or school-based references
