About the role

A warm, inclusive, trauma‑informed school near Grantham is seeking a compassionate and proactive Teaching Assistant to support children and young people across a range of age groups.

The school places strong emphasis on emotional safety, relationships, and consistency, recognising the impact of trauma on learning and behaviour.

Pupils are supported through predictable routines, nurturing interactions, and flexible, adapted teaching approaches to help them build confidence, trust, and independence.

This role is available full‑time and will be extended into the new academic year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of differentiated and accessible lessons, working closely with teachers to break down tasks and scaffold learning.
  • Provide emotionally attuned, trauma‑informed support, recognising triggers and responding with calm, empathy, and consistency.
  • Use structured strategies such as visual supports, clear expectations, modelling, and hands‑on activities to help pupils feel safe and engaged in learning.
  • Support pupils to regulate emotions and behaviour, offering reassurance and helping them re‑engage with learning following dysregulation.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, acting as a safe and reliable adult within the classroom environment.
  • Promote independence and resilience while celebrating progress, effort, and small achievements.
  • Pre‑requisites
  • Experience supporting children or young people in schools, alternative provision, care, youth work, or similar settings.
  • An understanding of trauma‑informed practice, attachment needs, and how these can impact behaviour and learning.
  • Confidence adapting support to meet individual needs, using flexible and nurturing approaches.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and supportive in emotionally challenging situations.
  • Relevant qualifications or training such as Level 2 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Youth Work, or equivalent experience.
