About the role

A supportive and inclusive alternative provision in Ely, specialising in Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs for children and young people.

The setting focuses on helping learners build emotional resilience, self-regulation, and positive relationships alongside their academic development.

Through structured routines, therapeutic approaches, and a nurturing environment, staff support pupils to re‑engage with learning and develop confidence.

This role offers flexibility and can be both full-time and part‑time, starting ASAP.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of adapted and engaging lessons by working alongside teaching staff to break down tasks, scaffold learning, and provide emotional support where needed.
  • Help pupils manage their social, emotional, and behavioural needs so they can access learning and feel safe in the classroom environment.
  • Use consistent, structured approaches – including de‑escalation techniques, clear boundaries, visual supports, and positive reinforcement – to promote engagement and regulate behaviour.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, encouraging trust, resilience, and confidence while supporting them to re‑focus and re‑engage with learning following periods of dysregulation.
  • Pre-requisites
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour in schools, alternative provisions, care settings, youth work, or similar environments.
  • Understanding of social, emotional, and mental health needs, and the ability to respond with patience, empathy, and consistency.
  • Confidence using behaviour management strategies, including de‑escalation, restorative approaches, and maintaining clear boundaries.
  • Relevant training or qualifications such as Team Teach, Youth Work, Childcare, Mental Health Support, or a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent experience).
