We are looking to appoint a dedicated and resilient Primary SEMH Teacher to join a supportive specialist setting in Ely, working with primary‑aged pupils with SEMH needs. The school provides a structured, nurturing environment designed to help pupils re‑engage with learning, develop emotional regulation, and build positive relationships. Teaching focuses on meeting individual needs through small group work, clear routines, and trauma‑informed practice. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to meet the academic, emotional, and behavioural needs of pupils with SEMH.
  • Create a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment that promotes emotional regulation, consistency, and positive behaviour.
  • Use de‑escalation strategies and therapeutic approaches to support pupils in managing emotions and remaining engaged in learning.
  • Assess progress and adapt teaching to support both academic development and personal, social, and emotional growth.
  • Work closely with support staff, the SENCo, and external professionals to implement EHCP targets and personalised behaviour support plans.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage confidence, resilience, and engagement.

Pre‑requisites

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification/experience.
  • Experience teaching primary‑aged pupils, ideally within SEMH, SEND, or inclusive settings.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH needs and confidence using positive behaviour management and trauma‑informed strategies.
  • A calm, patient, and adaptable teaching style with a commitment to inclusive education.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a proactive and reflective approach to teaching.
