justteachers are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Bradford, working with students aged 11 to 16. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity with the potential to become a permanent position for the right candidate. As a SEMH TA, you will play a vital role in supporting students with a range of behavioural and emotional needs, helping them to access learning in a safe and structured environment. You’ll work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and other support professionals to implement tailored strategies that promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties (BESD/SEMH) in both 1:1 and group settings
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and personalised support plans
  • Assist with the development of social skills and emotional resilience
  • Collaborate with teachers and SENCOs to adapt learning materials and approaches
  • Monitor and record student progress and behaviour
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
  • Provide de-escalation and crisis intervention support when necessary

Pre-requisites:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour or SEN (essential)
  • Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and de-escalation strategies
  • Relevant qualifications such as Team Teach, MAPA, or equivalent (desirable)
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A valid DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one
