Justteachers are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Support Officer to join our secondary school team. This role plays a vital part in supporting students’ wellbeing, behaviour, attendance, and personal development, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will work closely with students, families, teaching staff, and external agencies to provide targeted pastoral support and promote a safe, inclusive, and positive school environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide pastoral support to students on an individual and small‑group basis
- Support students with emotional wellbeing, behaviour, attendance, and engagement in learning
- Act as a trusted adult for students, offering guidance, mentoring, and early intervention
- Work closely with Heads of Year, safeguarding leads, SEN staff, and teaching colleagues
- Monitor and record student progress, behaviour, and wellbeing concerns accurately
- Liaise with parents/carers and external agencies where appropriate
- Support the school’s safeguarding policies and KCSIE framework at all times
- Contribute to behaviour support plans, reintegration strategies, and pastoral initiatives
Pre-requisites
- Experience working with secondary‑aged students in a school or similar setting
- A strong understanding of pastoral care, safeguarding, and student wellbeing
- Ability to build positive, professional relationships with young people
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach to challenging situations
