About the role
Justteachers are working with a secondary school in Bradford is seeking to appoint an exceptional Head of Year to join its pastoral team starting in September 2026 with the view of becoming a permanent position. The Head of Year will play a central role in shaping the culture, wellbeing, and success of its students.
The Head of Year leads the pastoral provision for a specific year group, ensuring every student feels supported, motivated, and able to thrive. The role involves close collaboration with tutors, senior leaders, and families to maintain high expectations, strong attendance, and a positive school experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading year‑group culture: setting the tone for behaviour, attitudes, and aspirations
- Monitoring student progress: identifying barriers and coordinating interventions
- Supporting wellbeing: ensuring students feel safe, included, and supported
- Working with families: building strong relationships to improve outcomes
- Coordinating tutors: guiding and developing the tutor team
- Responding to safeguarding concerns: following school procedures and working with DSLs
- Leading assemblies and events: celebrating success and promoting key messages

- Strong behaviour leadership skills
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities
- Experience supporting young people in a school setting
- A proactive, solution‑focused approach
- The ability to inspire trust and respect
- A commitment to safeguarding and inclusion
- Two school based references
