About the role:
A specialist education setting in Gainsborough offering tailored support for children and young people with a wide range of SEND needs, including communication differences, autism and behaviours that challenge. These provisions are structured, supportive and nurturing, with a strong emphasis on consistency, positive routines and enabling each learner to access meaningful learning in a way that suits their individual profile.
The school promotes progression, with opportunities for experienced staff to take on class‑leading responsibilities so will require someone full-time and to start in the coming weeks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide in‑class support across a range of ages, helping pupils access learning by breaking instructions down, implementing visual supports.
- Encourage positive learning behaviours, using calm, consistent and proactive strategies to guide pupils back on task and help them regulate.
- Support pupils with a range of needs- including autism, communication differences, learning delays and behavioural needs- using personalised approaches that support safety, engagement and independence.
- Assist in delivering differentiated and practical learning activities, working closely with the class teacher to reinforce key skills and maintain structure within the classroom.
- Opportunity to take responsibility for leading small groups or full classes, once trained and established within the setting.
Pre‑requisites:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEND and behaviour needs in schools, care, youth work or specialist settings.
- Confident implementing structured routines, visual communication tools, and behaviour strategies that promote consistency and engagement.
- Ability to remain calm, patient and solution‑focused when supporting pupils with higher levels of need.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice.
- Relevant training or qualifications such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, SEND training, Behaviour support, Youth Work, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
