Purpose of the role: work with the Group Risk team and risk owners to develop and maintain an appropriate risk management framework and support its implementation across the Chief Risk Officer’s organisation for adoption and deployment by the business. Coordinate activities of the Enterprise Risk team. Support the development and/or maintenance of risk processes to provide increasingly effective deployment of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) and challenge to the business, encouraging high standards of controls and proactive management of risk events. Support other Group Risk team members in coordinating the operational risk scenario process in support of the Group’s Internal Model and support the operation of the Group’s risk management system of record and tools in support of the ERMF deployment.
Key Responsibilities- Support the development, embedding, and continuous improvement of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF), risk practices, and risk culture in line with risk appetite and strategic objectives.
- Provide clear, considered advice and challenge to senior stakeholders, including the Director of Enterprise Risk, Chief Risk Officer, and wider leadership, on operational risk matters.
- Partner with Group Risk and business risk owners to support effective risk identification, assessment, and reporting across relevant entities.
- Deliver proactive operational risk guidance and oversight, ensuring risks are managed in line with the ERMF.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of operational risk scenarios, supporting the Group’s Internal Model for Operational Risk.
- Maintain and enhance the Group’s risk management system of record, ensuring alignment with the ERMF and supporting accurate, consistent risk reporting.
- Engage with system providers where required to support continuous improvement and effective utilisation of risk systems.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and reporting standards at all times.
- Externally recognised specialised risk management qualification or equivalent experience is essential.
- Proven track record of practical experience of implementing and/or operating risk management frameworks and processes.
- Significant breadth of experience and knowledge of life and pensions/Financial Services.
- Experience of risk support in change and implementation of large transformation initiatives.
- Commercially aware and committed to internal and external customer service.
- Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication skills, including influencing, negotiation, presentation and report writing.
- Strong understanding of risk management frameworks, practices and their application, including enterprise and operational risk.
- Ability to identify emerging risk issues and to drive understanding and management.
- Good understanding of regulatory context for operation of risk management, including Solvency 2 requirements and PRA/FCA expectations.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking ability, able to interpret information from a number of sources and draw together the big picture and bring a strategic perspective.
