As the Senior Risk Manager you will provide support to the Director of Compliance, contributing to the effectiveness of the Group Risk function through the development and provision of comprehensive support to business developments and the ongoing analysis of operational risk. You will support the implementation of the Enterprise risk framework across the Retail business areas, coordinate the operational risk scenario process in support of the Group’s Internal Model, and oversee the operation of the Group’s risk management database (SWORD).

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Director of Compliance in developing, educating and embedding Enterprise risk management frameworks, practices, and risk culture that support our risk appetite and strategic goals.
• Provide trusted advice to the Director of Compliance, Director of Enterprise Risk, the Group Chief Risk Officer, executives and senior management on the implications of operational risk in the wider business context, particularly within the Retail businesses.
• Act as risk partner to assigned business areas, attending and supporting Senior Management Team meetings and associated risk reporting.
• Provide proactive operational risk advice, support and challenge to Line 1 management, focusing on oversight of risks associated with change initiatives.
• Support delivery of the Group’s Internal Model for Operational Risk through development and maintenance of operational risk scenarios with risk owners and stakeholders.
• Ensure proficiency in the Group’s risk management database (SWORD) and support the business in identifying, assessing and reporting risks at departmental level.
• Ensure compliance with company procedures, policies, guidelines, reporting requirements and relevant regulatory and statutory requirements.

What We’re Looking For

• Externally recognised risk management qualification (essential).
• Proven practical experience of implementing and/or operating risk management processes.
• Significant breadth of experience and knowledge of life and pensions/Financial Services.
• Experience of risk support in change and implementation of large transformation initiatives.
• Commercial awareness and commitment to internal and external customer service.
• Proven record of building strong internal partnerships within businesses.
• Excellent relationship management, influencing, negotiation, presentation and report‑writing skills.
• Strong understanding of risk management practices, including operational risk, and ability to identify emerging risk issues and drive understanding and management.
• Good understanding of regulatory context for risk management, including FCA and PRA expectations.
• High‑level understanding of financial risk and capital management principles and techniques.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking ability, able to interpret information from a number of sources and draw together the ‘big picture’ to provide a strategic perspective.
