About the team: Our Data Platform Core team plays a key role in empowering data engineers, ML engineers, data scientists and analysts across the company. We provide some of the most critical capabilities to empower data driven decision making by continuously improving ourselves and bringing innovative, scalable solutions. Some of our key responsibilities are:
- Providing self served real time data ingestion capabilities.
- Providing a self served data engineering platform for any user to develop and control access to their datasets on GCP.
- Managing data access globally on GCP and ensuring that data is protected.
- Developing and maintaining Data Governance tools for managing sensitive data access policies, Right to be Forgotten, Subject Access Requests and Data Retention.
- Managing capacity and resources on GCP and ensuring users operate efficiently on BigQuery.
- Collaborating with other data teams to ensure we have a unified, efficient and modern data engineering strategy.
We use serverless technologies where possible to simplify our estate and move quickly. Everyone in the team contributes to infrastructure, we have CI/CD pipelines and we define our infrastructure as code.

- You’ll spearhead the strategy, methodology and architecture of real time data ingestion as this is a key investment of the company.
- Be the champion of building a secure, robust and efficient data platform on GCP.
- You’ll develop solutions that ensure high quality of code, QA/testing best practices, security and optimal, standardised approaches.
- Coach and provide direction to more junior data engineers.
- Collaborate with other engineering and data engineering teams, deal with blockers, advise solutions to ensure we align on scalable solutions for the entire company.
- Proactively reach out and work with users utilising our capabilities and seek for value adding opportunities for the business, new capabilities or improvements.
- Research technological data developments in the market and identify and after approval implement new solutions that can support the business objectives and optimise the platform.
What will you bring to the table?
- You are highly experienced in functional programming in Scala and/or Python for data engineering, have in-depth knowledge of distributed systems and complex data systems.
- You are experienced in designing and implementing real time ingestion solutions.
- You understand the entire product development lifecycle very well, from coding to deployments, to monitoring, alerting.
- Not only do you love well tested, readable, performant code, capable of processing large volumes of data but also you have a passion to share that knowledge, coach other engineers to improve their work as well.
- You work independently and set your own goals in a hands-off environment. You proactively seek alignment on the strategy and reach for support to unblock.
- You are experienced in delivering projects end to end autonomously.
- You have the inclination to collaborate and ability to communicate technical ideas clearly.
- You enjoy contributing to architecture discussions and influence peers and stakeholders to make better decisions.
- You love working with Cloud technologies and have experience in working with AWS, Azure or Google Cloud. We use Google Cloud with a mix of services - Kubernetes, Dataflow, PubSub etc.
