Junkfish Ltd is looking for a VFX artist to join our remote development studio in the UK. You will have the opportunity to work alongside a friendly, diverse and dynamic team in order to create visually exciting VFX within the Unreal Games Engine. Within the studio, you’ll be working on original IP aimed for the PC platform that is early in development. You will be encouraged to give feedback from other disciplines to the team as a whole.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • You will be creating real-time particle effects using Unreal Engine and other related tools.
  • Create, design and implement real-time particle effects with animated elements in 2D and 3D.
  • Working closely with Environment Artists, Animators, Designers, and Engineers to produce a fully immersive gaming experience.
  • Create particles and decal textures.
  • Produce high-quality, performant visuals, as an integral part of the team.
  • Be an active participant in team art discussions, critiques, and reviews.
  • Prototyping effects quickly to communicate ideas to creative leads, the director and other Senior Artists.
  • Provide assistance and guidance when visual effects that contain lighting are going to strongly affect the environment.
  • Work with other project disciplines to maintain an efficient pipeline.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure that VFX is implemented appropriately in the game engine.
  • Facilitate art content development and feedback to any potential outsourcing partners.
  • Integrate outsourced assets directly into project pipelines, making any required fixes to the assets.
  • Collaborate with production, the project art leads and the wider team, communicating clearly in all directions.
Essential Experience, Skills and Knowledge
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience as a VFX Artist within the Games or Film industries.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including team working and ability to collaborate with others.
  • Appropriate workload/time/project/people management skills.
  • Self-motivation, initiative and independent thought/working.
  • Problem-solving skills including a flexible and pragmatic approach.
Desirable Experience
  • Familiar with at least one industry standard game engine.
  • Familiar with at least one industry standard 3D modelling package.
  • Basic knowledge of Houdini or other VFX software and plugins.
  • Strong Photoshop skills.
  • Understanding of, and experience working within, technical constraints and budgets.
  • Ability to communicate cross-discipline and work closely in small teams.
  • A good understanding of physical behaviour and motion in the creation of VFX.
  • A great team player with a mind for games and a keen artistic eye.
  • Brainstorm and prototype new ideas and solutions.
Additional Information
  • Salary: £24,000 – £38,000.
