We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Functional Skills Tutor (English and/or Maths) to join our growing team. This is a predominantly remote delivery role, with travel required across the West Midlands for learner invigilation, staff training, meetings, and events.
You will play a key role in supporting learners to develop essential English and Maths skills, helping them gain qualifications and progress into further education, employment, or apprenticeships.
Key responsibilities- Deliver engaging Functional Skills sessions in English and/or Maths via remote learning platforms.
- Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality, learner-centred lessons.
- Support learners to overcome barriers and build confidence in their studies.
- Carry out initial assessments, track progress, and maintain accurate learner records.
- Prepare learners for Functional Skills examinations and coordinate exam readiness.
- Attend centres across the West Midlands for invigilation, staff training, meetings, and learner events.
- Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion at all times.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support learner engagement, retention, and achievement.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience delivering Functional Skills English and/or Maths.
- Holds (or is working towards) a recognised teaching qualification (e.g. DET/PGCE/Cert Ed).
- Is confident delivering remote/online learning effectively.
- Can motivate and engage learners with diverse needs and starting points.
- Has strong organisational, planning, and communication skills.
- Understands safeguarding responsibilities within education and training.
- Experience working with 16+ learners.
- Experience supporting learners with EHCPs or additional learning needs.
- Experience delivering blended learning (online and face-to-face).
- Experience in exam preparation and invigilation.
- 25 days holiday, increasing to 30 with service.
