Location: West Midlands (Remote Delivery with travel required)

Contract: Part-time / Permanent

Salary: £28,000 – £35,000 Pro Rata, depending on hours and experience

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Functional Skills Tutor (English and/or Maths) to join our growing team. This is a predominantly remote delivery role, with travel required across the West Midlands for learner invigilation, staff training, meetings, and events. You will play a key role in supporting learners to develop essential English and Maths skills, helping them gain qualifications and progress into further education, employment, or apprenticeships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging Functional Skills sessions in English and/or Maths via remote learning platforms.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality, learner-centred lessons.
  • Support learners to overcome barriers and build confidence in their studies.
  • Carry out initial assessments, track progress, and maintain accurate learner records.
  • Prepare learners for Functional Skills examinations and coordinate exam readiness.
  • Attend centres across the West Midlands for invigilation, staff training, meetings, and learner events.
  • Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support learner engagement, retention, and achievement.

About You

  • Has experience delivering Functional Skills English and/or Maths.
  • Holds (or is working towards) a recognised teaching qualification (e.g. DET/PGCE/Cert Ed).
  • Is confident delivering remote/online learning effectively.
  • Can motivate and engage learners with diverse needs and starting points.
  • Has strong organisational, planning, and communication skills.
  • Understands safeguarding responsibilities within education and training.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working with 16+ learners.
  • Experience supporting learners with EHCPs or additional learning needs.
  • Experience delivering blended learning (online and face-to-face).
  • Experience in exam preparation and invigilation.
