Your Role as a Sports Lecturer
- Deliver inspiring lessons: Plan and teach practical sessions and theory lessons that meet awarding body requirements and engage different learning styles.
- Assess and track progress: Carry out formative and summative assessments, provide timely feedback and maintain accurate learner records.
- Design practical opportunities: Develop coaching, officiating and vocational activities that build learners’ employability and technical skills.
- Support learner development: Mentor and tutor learners, provide personalised support and signpost careers, apprenticeships and further study.
- Safeguard and promote wellbeing: Maintain a safe learning environment and follow Juniper’s safeguarding and inclusion policies.
- Contribute to centre life: Support open days, enrichment, work placements and external partnerships to enhance the learner experience.
What You’ll Need
We welcome applicants who demonstrate a strong combination of qualifications, practical experience and teaching ability:
- Essential: Level 3 qualification in sport (or higher) and recent practical coaching or industry experience.
- Essential: Teaching qualification (PGCE, CertEd, or Level 3+ in Education & Training) or willingness to work towards it.
- Experience delivering sport vocational qualifications and assessing practical skills.
- Desirable: Level 2 English and Maths or willingness to support learners to achieve these.
- Desirable: Coaching awards (e.g. UKCC/FA/other governing body), first aid and safeguarding training.
Key Skills:
- Excellent communication, classroom and behaviour management, creative planning and strong organisational ability.
- Driving licence and access to a vehicle may be required for off-site activities and fixtures.
