Role Overview
Jul’s London is seeking an experienced and service-driven Head Waiter to oversee the smooth running of restaurant service. This role is responsible for supervising waiters, assistant waiters, and runners while supporting management in delivering an exceptional guest experience. The Head Waiter must demonstrate outstanding product knowledge, service leadership, and lead the floor team by example at all times.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the service team by example, ensuring consistently high service standards
- Supervise waiters, assistant waiters, and runners during service
- Ensure all opening duties and station setups are completed to standard
- Perform opening and closing duties and assist with restaurant setup
- Welcome and engage guests, ensuring a warm and professional atmosphere
- Explain menu items in detail and provide allergen information when required
- Drive suggestive selling and upselling in line with Jul’s service philosophy
- Introduce dishes when serving and ensure accurate, timely service
- Maintain table cleanliness, replacing plates, cutlery, and glassware as needed
- Act as a point of contact for booking enquiries, liaising with reception or management
- Communicate clearly and consistently with management and team members
- Support, guide, and motivate colleagues throughout service
Duties by Service Period
Before Service
- Prepare service stations and ensure sections are fully set up
- Ensure stations are clean, organised, and stocked according to checklist standards
- Carry required service tools (notepad, pens, wine opener, etc.)
- Attend daily briefings in full, well-presented uniform
- Stay informed of menu changes, 86’d items, promotions, and service focus
- Support the team in completing opening duties
During Service
- Lead service by example, maintaining a calm and professional floor presence
- Welcome guests and oversee guest flow within your section
- Take and process orders accurately following Jul’s procedures
- Recommend dishes, portion sizes, and beverages to enhance the guest experience
- Ensure orders are correctly entered and communicated to the kitchen and bar
- Introduce each dish served and monitor guest satisfaction
- Oversee your section, supporting waiters, assistant waiters, and runners
- Communicate regularly with management regarding service flow or issues
- Monitor breakages and spoilage
- Present payments to the cashier in accordance with company standards
After Service
- Oversee the breakdown and reset of your section
- Ensure all tables are correctly closed and reconciled
- Report service feedback, incidents, or guest comments to management
- Assist with polishing cutlery and glassware
- Remain on duty until your team has completed all closing tasks and assist other departments as required
