The predicted salary is between 30000 - 40000 £ per year.

The successful candidate will be based at our Dorset Hospice in Corfe Mullen, working in the Hospice, as well as working across Dorset in the homes of the children and young people we look after. You will have the skills and experience required that will enable you to care for children and young people with complex health care needs, as well as supporting with end-of-life care. We are offering a permanent contract, and the salary quoted is on the basis of 28 hours per week, but we may accept a minimum of 20 hours. A full driving licence and use of a vehicle for business purposes are essential.

Main duties of the job

  • You get the chance to spend time with children and their families, really getting to know them, and creating wonderful memories.
  • As a Care Team Member, you will be supported through an induction process, and provided with any specialist training needed, to provide a high standard of care to the children and young people we look after.
  • If you haven't already completed the Care Certificate, you will also be supported through this qualification as a requirement of the role.
  • To meet the care needs of our children and young people, flexibility will be required. Our care provision is provided seven days a week and so hours worked will include evenings, weekends, school holidays and occasional overnights. There are no set shift patterns. Rotas are prepared 6 weeks in advance.

Julias House is an award-winning children's hospice charity dedicated to bringing comfort and care to families across the two counties. Each family we support is unique and so is the care we provide. When a family finds out that their child has a very serious medical condition, which is life-limiting or life-threatening, their world falls apart. Julias House exists to help these children and their families.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide a high standard of holistic Care (physical, emotional, social and spiritual), play and professional friendship to the child and their immediate and extended family, and to provide continuity of Care by working both in the community and the Julias House Hospice as appropriate.
  • Be involved in the planning and running of activity sessions, including the development and maintenance of activity packs, both in the Hospice and the Community.
  • Develop, monitor and maintain individualised programmes of activities in direct relation to the child's/young person's specific requirements.
  • Work flexibly alongside the families, supporting them in the manner that they choose, as appropriate to the role of a Julias House Care Team Member.
  • Take a proactive role in professional training and personal development.
  • Promote and maintain close relations and liaison with all Care staff.
  • Work within the appropriate regulatory bodies regulations and help to maintain accurate records of methods, evidence of policies and the monitoring of procedures for inspection.

Person Specification

  • NVQ 2 / 3 in Care or equivalent.
  • Experience of working within a Care environment.
  • Basic understanding of equal opportunities.
  • Community based experience e.g. Sure Start, portage.
  • Experience of working within a play-setting.
  • Safeguarding Awareness Level 1.
