Join to apply for the Dorset Outreach Volunteer role at Julian House

Julian House is a charity dedicated to making a difference to the lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in society. We run several projects, and every year we help thousands of people out of homelessness, into employment, away from domestic abuse, and more.

We’re currently looking for passionate and committed volunteers to join us in making a real difference.

Job Role: Outreach Volunteer

Location: Weymouth, Dorset

Hours: Flexible, this can range from a couple of hours a month to a couple of hours per week

Outreach sessions typically run seven days a week, starting at 6:00 AM.

Overview of the Role

As an Outreach Volunteer, you’ll be part of a dedicated team working directly with individuals experiencing street homelessness. Your role will involve supporting our outreach workers during early morning shifts, helping to engage with people sleeping rough and connecting them with vital services.

You’ll assist in identifying individuals in need, gathering key information, and helping to ensure no one is overlooked. This is a dynamic, on-the-ground role that requires empathy, resilience, and a genuine desire to help others. You’ll also gain valuable insight into how multi-agency partnerships work together to provide holistic, person-centred support.

Whether it’s offering a warm conversation, helping with referrals, or simply being a consistent and caring presence, your contribution will be a crucial part of someone’s journey toward safety and stability.

Please note: To volunteer in our outreach team, you must be 18 years or older and will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS check as part of the onboarding process.

What’s in it for you?

  • Make a Real Difference: Your time and care will have a direct impact on the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Gain Valuable Experience: Develop your skills in communication, teamwork, and frontline support – great for anyone interested in careers in social care, housing, or community work.
  • Be Part of a Passionate Team: Work alongside experienced staff who are committed to tackling homelessness and supporting vulnerable individuals.

What’s expected of you?

  • Bring Enthusiasm: A positive attitude and a willingness to get involved go a long way in making a difference.
  • Follow Guidelines: Adhere to our policies and procedures to help ensure a safe and supportive environment for everyone.
  • Champion Our Mission: Support Julian House’s goal of helping vulnerable and at-risk individuals rebuild their lives.

Our Ethos

As an Equal Opportunities employer, we have an Equality and Diversity Action plan in place showing our commitment in ensuring continuous improvement in creating an inclusive culture. We also have a committed group of Inclusion & Diversity champions who meet monthly to ensure progress is being made. We invite applications from people from all backgrounds and cultures, especially minority groups that are underrepresented in the workplace. We also welcome applications from those with lived experience. We embrace flexibility and are proud to be a Disability Confident and Mindful employer, as well as an Armed Forces Covenant Supporter.

If you have any special access requirements or other support needs throughout the application process, please contact us so that we can let you know how we can support you.

DBS Checks

We warmly welcome applications from individuals with lived experience. All volunteers working directly with our clients will be required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Please note that a criminal conviction will not automatically prevent you from volunteering with us. Each case is considered individually, taking into account the nature of the offence and its relevance to the role. If you would like to discuss any convictions in confidence, please feel free to contact the person named in the advert.

All information shared will be handled in line with our Data Protection Policy.
