Job Role: Cooking Volunteer
Location: Manvers Street Hostel, Central Bath
Available Shifts: Monday to Sunday
Join us for one or more of the following shift options:

The Role
Are you passionate about food and want to make a meaningful difference in your community? Join us as a Cooking Volunteer at our Manvers Street Hostel, where we provide 24-hour support to individuals with a history of homelessness.
In this role, you’ll be preparing and cooking hearty meals for our residents, helping to bring comfort, routine, and nourishment to their day. You’ll also be responsible for cleaning up as you go and ensuring the kitchen is left tidy afterwards.
Please note: This role is a solo one, so you’ll need to feel confident working independently in the kitchen — but don’t worry, support is always nearby if you need it!
What’s In It For You
- Cooking Skills: This is a great opportunity to develop your skills while preparing wholesome, home-cooked meals.
- Full Induction & Support: You’ll receive a warm welcome and full induction to help you settle into the role and get to know more about our hostel and the people we support.
- Make a Real Difference: Your time and care will have a direct impact on the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness.
What’s Expected Of You
- Bring Enthusiasm: A positive attitude and a willingness to get involved go a long way in making a difference.
- Follow Guidelines: Adhere to our policies and procedures to help ensure a safe and supportive environment for everyone.
- Complete Training: Engage with the training provided during registration to feel confident and prepared in your role.
- Champion Our Mission: Support Julian House’s goal of helping vulnerable and at-risk individuals rebuild their lives.
Time Commitment
A typical volunteering shift lasts around 2 to 3 hours. All we ask is for a regular commitment — whether that’s once a week or once a month, every bit of your time makes a real difference.
Please note: To volunteer at our hostel, you must be 18 years or older and will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS check as part of the onboarding process.

We welcome applications from people with lived experience. All applicants working with our clients will be expected to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. A criminal conviction will not necessarily prevent you from becoming an employee, the decision will depend on the type of offence and its relevance to the role.
