Studio Assistant

Julia Lloyd George

Earls Court, London

Julia Lloyd George is a fine jewellery designer and maker with over forty years of experience at the forefront of the industry.

We are looking for a part time Studio Assistant to join our small team at JLG. You will play an instrumental role in the day-to-day running of the studio and showroom, as well as supporting the brand's online presence and the design of bespoke pieces.

We are looking for someone friendly, adaptable and exceptionally detail-oriented who would enjoy a role that combines design and tech skills with the practical day-to-day life of a working studio.

This might particularly suit a recent graduate in jewellery design or a closely related discipline who is excited by the opportunity to become an integral part of a small independent jewellery business.

Part-time: 1 day per week

Salary: Competitive. Negotiable depending on experience

The role

  • Work closely with the founder of JLG and a small team to support the day-to-day running of the studio and showroom
  • Assist with the design and development of new bespoke pieces, with a sensitivity to the nuances of brand tone and style
  • Produce detailed design work, hand painted to scale in watercolour or gouache, for use by clients and goldsmiths
  • Entry-level benchwork, including intricate assembly using professional-grade adhesives, polishing and finishing, and general repairs and adjustments.
  • Liaise with workshops and craftspeople in Hatton Garden, including running production errands and attending supplier appointments across London
  • Assist with developing written and visual material for in-house and external publication, including graphic design, copywriting, and social media content
  • Assist with managing the JLG brand across all online platforms, including the website, social media and scheduled newsletters
  • Estimate costs and manage quotes, invoices and inventory using existing tech systems

Desirable skills and experience

  • Strong visual skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Detailed hand painting and design skills, with the ability to interpret briefs creatively while staying aligned to Julia's design style
  • Good written and verbal communicator, with the confidence to work closely with our clients, craftspeople and suppliers
  • Tech literate, with a strong ability to adapt to new systems and improve efficiency where appropriate
  • Proficient in Adobe Suite, with experience editing and retouching in Photoshop. Some graphic design experience would be beneficial
  • Proficient writer with an ability to produce creative copy would be desirable, but not essential
  • Jewellery production experience or benchwork at any level would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of gemstones and an understanding of the fine jewellery manufacturing process would be highly desirable

In 1985 Julia established herself as a London-based independent designer and manufacturer.

She specialises in handmade and bespoke fine jewellery with a focus on coloured gemstones, particularly Paraiba tourmalines. Julia's strong distinctive style is eminently wearable. The designs are clean and simple, utterly contemporary yet with an ancient feel.

Her new showroom and studio in Earls Court opened in 2021 and continues to witness the creation of exciting new designs, as well as hosting a bi-annual exhibition of her work.
