Juice Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a plant hire business in Portsmouth with their search for a dedicated and experienced Depot Manager to lead the daily operations of their busy hire depot. This is an excellent opportunity for an immediately available, confident and proactive leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is looking to take ownership of a key operational site.
The successful candidate will oversee all depot functions, including hire desk, transport, engineering and customer service, ensuring the safe, efficient and profitable running of the depot.
DAY TO DAY
- Lead and manage the daily operations of the depot, ensuring smooth coordination between Hire Desk, Engineering, Transport and Yard teams.
- Oversee fleet utilisation, scheduling and equipment availability to meet customer demand.
- Support commercial performance by managing hire rates, transport costs and overall depot profitability.
- Ensure all equipment is serviced, inspected and prepared in line with safety and quality standards before hire.
- Build strong relationships with customers, resolving queries promptly and delivering exceptional service.
- Manage the transport function, including vehicle routing, timely deliveries/collections and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor and maintain high standards of health & safety across all depot activities.
- Lead, train and support depot staff, creating a positive and high-performing team culture.
- Oversee depot administration, performance reporting and KPI tracking.
WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE
- Previous management experience within powered access, plant hire, construction equipment, logistics, or a similar operational environment.
- Proven leadership skills with experience managing multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong commercial awareness with an understanding of revenue, utilisation and cost control.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Confident communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
- A solid understanding of health & safety practices; LOLER/PUWER or IOSH knowledge advantageous.
- IT proficiency, ideally with experience using hire management or CRM systems.
