About the job:

Experience working in a SEND setting, particularly with students with ASD and ADHD, would be an advantage, as well as experience working in a PRU and an understanding of restorative and therapeutic practices. You will develop activities and resources to meet the needs of students, consult with the school lead to set targets and report on progress and behaviour. Supporting student resilience, social, emotional, and mental health and well-being is a key part of this role. Flexibility is essential for this role as no two days are the same. You will be joining a committed team that wants to make a real difference to the lives of young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver daily mentoring sessions to support emotional regulation, goal setting, and behaviour reflection.
  • Support student engagement and behaviour within vocational sessions delivered by BTEC tutors.
  • Build strong, consistent relationships with students who have experienced educational trauma, exclusion, or instability.
  • Use restorative and relational approaches to manage behaviour and promote a safe, respectful learning environment.
  • Support delivery of physical activities, enrichment, and community-based learning sessions.
  • Facilitate 1-1 SEMH interventions and support small group discussions focused on identity, well-being, and future planning.
  • Monitor and record student engagement, providing input into weekly progress snapshots and termly reports.
  • Support students to develop employability and life skills, including punctuality, communication, and teamwork.
  • Encourage aspirations and pathways into further education, apprenticeships, or training.
  • Collaborate with tutors, parents/carers, and external professionals to ensure wraparound support.
  • Adhere to all safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection standards.

About you:

You will play a pivotal role in mentoring and supporting the students’ needs and aiding retention of students on the course.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Level 2 qualification or above in Youth Work, Education Support, Health & Social Care, Sports Coaching, or a similar field.
  • Experience supporting young people in KS3 and KS4, ideally those with SEMH, SEND, or at risk of exclusion.
  • Strong working knowledge of behaviour management, trauma-informed practice, and ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences).
  • Experience delivering 1-1 mentoring or group wellbeing sessions.
  • Understanding of the Restorative practice and BTEC vocational framework or willingness to train in its structure.
  • Current Safeguarding and First Aid training (or willingness to complete).
