The North Liverpool Primary Care Network would like to recruit a Pharmacy Technician to complement our current Pharmacy Team.

We are seeking a highly motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our team in North Liverpool PCN. As a Network Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medications, providing pharmaceutical care and expertise to patients, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient outcomes. This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic and growing team that prioritises patient well-being and teamwork. This is not a remote working post.

About us: North Liverpool is the largest PCN in Liverpool with 21 practices and a weighted population size of approximately 150,000 patients. We have a large pharmacy team consisting of 14 pharmacists and 9 technicians. We offer supportive induction training to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to become an effective member of the team. We also offer training and education to support you to develop further.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement personalised medication therapy plans.
  • Resolve medication related problems for patients and support medication management and counselling.
  • Manage patient profiles, including medication history, allergies, and current prescriptions.
  • Provide patient education on medication use, potential side effects, and drug interactions.
  • Assist in quality improvement initiatives, including medication error prevention.
  • Conduct medication reconciliation and identify discrepancies to ensure accurate and up to date medication lists.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to discuss patient care and optimise treatment outcomes.
  • Stay up to date with current literature and guidelines to provide evidence based pharmaceutical care.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmacy services.
  • 2 years experience in a hospital, community or primary care pharmacy.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Clear, polite telephone manner.
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office packages and case management systems.
  • Knowledge of the principles of medication optimisation.
  • Good pharmacy knowledge including terminology.
  • An appreciation of the nature of primary care prescribing, concepts of rational prescribing and strategies for improvement of prescribing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of pharmacy law and ethics and current legislation.
  • Understanding of current national policies, in particular those that impact on medicines management services.
  • Effective time management (Planning & Organising).
  • High levels of analytical literacy skills.
  • Organised with good time management.
  • Ability to follow policy and procedure.

  • Displays self-confidence and self-awareness, especially in dealing with staff and patients.

  • Flexibility to work outside of core office hours.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Enrolled in, undertaking or qualified from, an approved training pathway. For example, the Primary Care Pharmacy Educational Pathway (PCPEP) or Medicines Optimisation in Care Homes (MOCH).
  • Primary care experience.
  • Experience of medicines reconciliation.
  • Understanding of community pharmacy systems.
  • Ability to develop and implement policy and procedure to sustain a quality service.
  • Understanding of QOF.
