Our client is a successful facilities management business with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality services. They are now looking for an ambitious, commercially minded and inspirational finance leader to join their senior team as Head of Central Finance, supporting their 35-year PAC contract – the largest infrastructure PFI ever let by the Ministry of Defence (MOD).

This is a high-profile opportunity for a finance leader who wants to make a genuine impact beyond the numbers, taking ownership of a broad central finance function and leading a team of 6 direct reports and 24 indirect reports. You will play a key role in shaping the financial performance, governance and future direction of the division, while influencing how the finance function operates and supports a major, long-term infrastructure contract. With responsibility spanning people leadership, financial governance, business partnering and finance transformation, this is a role where you can bring fresh thinking, drive meaningful change and make a visible contribution to the wider organisation.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Director, you will lead and develop a large finance team, ensuring a strong culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead, inspire and develop a high-performing finance team of 30, creating a culture where people are empowered to perform, develop and succeed.
  • Drive finance transformation and efficiency, identifying opportunities to improve processes and embracing modern technology, including ERP systems, forecasting tools and artificial intelligence.
  • Take ownership of monthly financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow forecasting and financial analysis, providing meaningful insight to internal stakeholders and the parent company.
  • Lead the organisation’s financial governance and control environment, including internal controls, statutory audits, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls and the development of robust financial control frameworks.
  • Act as a trusted finance business partner to central and garrison teams, working closely with commercial and project finance colleagues to support forecasting, financial performance and decision-making.
  • Build strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, providing challenge, insight and commercial perspective.
  • Be an active member of the Extended Leadership Team, championing organisational values, innovation and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Work closely with and support the Finance Director on strategic priorities and wider business initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Recognised accountancy qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
  • Degree educated.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A proven track record of leading and developing finance teams within a commercial environment.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and commercial awareness.
  • Experience of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial control.
  • A track record of process improvement and driving efficiencies within a finance function.
  • Experience of VAT and Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) requirements.
  • Experience of working with and influencing multiple stakeholders across an organisation.
  • Ideally, experience of working with modern finance systems, ERP platforms and/or emerging technologies.
