Location: Plaistow (Howards House) and East London (Jericho House)

Contract: Full‑time, Part‑time, and Bank (Waking Night contracts available)

Reports to: Deputy/Registered Manager

At JTA, you’ll be part of a skilled, caring team in Ofsted‑registered children’s homes supporting young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD). You’ll help create a safe, nurturing environment that feels as close to family as possible—and you’ll see the difference your work makes every day.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide warm, consistent emotional and social support—building trust and positive relationships.
  • Safeguard and promote welfare at all times, following care plans, behaviour support plans and risk assessments.
  • Encourage individual interests and community participation—clubs, sports, faith/community groups, and local activities.
  • Plan, shop and prepare meals with young people, promoting healthy, varied diets and independent living skills.
  • Support with education, routines and life skills (appointments, budgeting, travel, homework).
  • Keep accurate records (daily logs, incidents, medication, key work sessions) to a high professional standard.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture—handover, debriefs, reflective practice and continuous improvement.
  • For Waking Nights: maintain night‑time safety, routines, premises checks and incident response.

What you’ll bring:

  • A genuine passion for improving outcomes for children and young people.
  • Calm, resilient, and reliable—especially under pressure.
  • Team player with good communication skills, reflective and open to feedback.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable children/young people is welcomed but not essential (full training provided).
  • Willingness to work a rota including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
  • Successful applicants will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS (paid for by JTA) and provide satisfactory references/right‑to‑work.
  • Fully funded Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (or equivalent) with study time and mentoring.
  • Structured induction, shadow shifts, monthly supervision, team reflective practice and regular CPD.
  • Clear progression routes to Senior Residential Support Worker, Team Leader, and Deputy Manager roles.
  • Annual leave: 240 hours per annum (includes bank holidays).
  • Waking Nights.
