As Workshop Manager, you'll be responsible for leading a skilled team while ensuring tasks are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the fabrication workshop.
- Lead, motivate, and support the workshop team to achieve production targets.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
- Maintain quality standards, including ISO 9001 and BS EN 1090 requirements.
- Review and communicate RAMS and Safe Systems of Work (SSOWs) with workshop personnel.
- Assist with cost estimating, technical reviews, and design procedures.
- Review and verify fabrication drawings, with occasional site visits as required.
- Plan labour resources and create efficient production schedules.
- Carry out quality inspections throughout the manufacturing process.
- Ensure job cards are completed accurately.
- Oversee goods-in inspections, ensuring correct quantity and quality.
- Monitor and maintain stock levels of consumables and PPE.
- Ensure workshop tasks are completed within agreed timescales.
- Liaise with the Compliance Manager to ensure all workshop regulatory requirements remain current.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
- Ensure workshop equipment is inspected, maintained, and cleaned in accordance with inspection schedules.
About You We're looking for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent leadership and organisational skills.
Ideally, you'll have
- City & Guilds or NVQ qualification in Fabrication, Welding, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Fabrication and welding experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Responsible Welding Coordinator qualification, or the willingness to undertake training.
- Previous experience in a supervisory, team leader, or workshop management role.
- Strong planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Good understanding of quality systems, including ISO 9001 and BS EN 1090.
- A proactive approach to health, safety, and continuous improvement.
