As Contracts Manager, you will take full leadership responsibility for the successful delivery of multiple civil engineering projects. You will drive operational performance, strengthen client relationships, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Leadership & Delivery
- Lead and support Project and Site Managers to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Align team performance with wider business objectives and strategic priorities.
- Promote a high-performance culture focused on safety, quality, programme, and commercial success.
- Deputise for senior management when required.
Pre-Construction & Business Development
- Support business development initiatives and help maintain strong market relationships.
- Work closely with bid teams during tender stages to support submissions and secure new contracts.
- Attend tender handover meetings to fully understand contract obligations, scope, methodology, risks, opportunities, and client priorities.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
- Chair and attend regular progress and review meetings to ensure expectations are met or exceeded.
- Ensure the company brand and professional standards are consistently upheld.
H&S/Compliance
- Lead by example in championing a strong health & safety culture across all projects.
- Ensure full compliance with company policies, statutory regulations, and IMS procedures.
- Conduct regular site audits and ensure documentation and records are maintained accurately.
- Understand and fulfil responsibilities under the Occupational Health & Safety Policy.
Commercial & Performance Management
- Work closely with commercial teams to monitor contract performance, forecast costs, and protect or improve margins.
- Develop and maintain Risk & Opportunity schedules to identify cost savings, added value, and mitigation strategies.
- Chair monthly contract reviews and ensure actions are documented and followed through.
- Escalate significant issues appropriately, providing clear resolution plans to senior management.
Planning & Programme Control
- Lead contract planning to ensure effective use and control of resources.
- Review target programmes with site teams to ensure sequencing, procurement, and design lead times are fully understood and managed.
Team Development & Continuous Improvement
- Drive site team performance through coaching, mentoring, and constructive challenge.
- Identify training and development needs to maximise individual and team potential.
- Promote innovation, best practice, and continuous improvement across projects.
- Stay informed of technological and contractual developments and communicate updates to teams.
Key Requirements
- Proven track record of successfully delivering civil engineering projects through site teams.
- Strong leadership and team management experience.
- Demonstrable experience managing Health & Safety compliance on live projects.
- Valid CSCS card (relevant to role).
- SMSTS certification.
