My client is currently looking for a Machinist / Toolmaker to join their small friendly team on a permanent basis. Based in Barrow upon Soar, they support various sectors in their mechanical engineering and machining requirements, producing one-offs, small batches, prototypes, repairs and refurbishments. A strong mechanical engineering background is essential due to the varied work undertaken.

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

  • Experience to include:
  • Milling
  • Turning
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Work to tight tolerances
  • Carry out own inspection
  • Desirable:
    • Boring
    • Surface grinding
    • Assembly
    • Welding / Light Fabrication
    • Fork Lift

    Outline of Job Duties:

    • To manufacture high quality components in an efficient manner, to drawing specifications with minimum supervision.
    • Use engineering knowledge to reverse engineer and find solutions to solve engineering problems.
    • Quality check own work to ensure high quality parts are manufactured.
    • Contribute to the housekeeping of the workshops, maintaining tidy and clean work areas.
    • Work in an ethical and professional manner at all times as a representative of the company.
    • Flexibility to use other relevant skills and abilities as required.
    • Effective communication with colleagues, customers and project teams.
    • High standards of reliability and punctuality.
    • Good organisational and time management skills and the ability to work under pressure.
    • Ability to work using own initiative as well as operate as part of a team.
    • A flexible approach to respond to the demands of the business.

    Hours of work: 39 per week. Part time would be considered. Monday to Thursday: 7.30 am to 4.30 pm, Friday: 7.30 am to 12.30 pm.

    Holidays: 28 days per annum including Bank and Public Holidays.

    Rate of pay: Good rate of pay. Negotiable dependent upon skills and experience.
