Our public sector are looking for a 7.5 Tonne Driver to join them on a temporary basis.

Location – Leicestershire

Pay Rate – £13.48ph

Job Purpose:

To work as part of a team to deliver a best value, customer-focussed service throughout Leicestershire and occasionally, surrounding counties. You will work flexibly, efficiently and effectively to maintain highways, footpaths and structures in accordance with statutory requirements.

Main Duties:

To undertake various maintenance works following safe working procedures, and using equipment and power tools. The list below is indicative of the types of work, but is not exhaustive:

  • Kerb laying, footway and carriageway construction, excavations, drainage, block paving, slabbing, brickwork to manholes, routine gully emptying, attend to drainage problems, laying bitumen, spreading, levelling and laying of materials to lines and levels, and support on Construction and Surfacing activities
  • Drive/operate specialist plant to perform all highways operations, and use equipment such as saws, compaction equipment etc to meet contractual requirements
  • Carry out daily routine maintenance to appropriate vehicle and plant, complying with relevant legislation (e.g driver’s hours regulations, European Drivers Regulations, safe loads and weights) to ensure safe and continued use.
  • Use appropriate equipment and procedures to detect and locate underground services to protect operatives and prevent damage to apparatus.

To support the Supervisor or Site Team Leader by:

  • Taking the role of lead operative as requested when working with other operatives on the same grade, with responsibility for ensuring the correct observance of Health and Safety directives with regards to personal protective equipment, application of Temporary Traffic Management requirements and the safe lifting and handling of materials and plant on site
  • Ensuring daily performance targets are met, raising any issues in a timely manner with the Supervisor or Site Team Leader
  • Taking the lead when working with temporary staff, to explain the requirements of the job, answer, or escalate to the Supervisor or Site Team Leader any queries and ensure they are made to feel part of the team.

To carry out duties associated with Highway Works as directed by the line manager or senior person on site e.g.:

  • Driving of vehicles and tractors with simple attachments
  • Operation of powered light plant
  • All driver and operator maintenance associated with the above.

To take part in a Standby rota to provide out of hours cover, receiving instruction to attend sites and making the area safe prior to permanent solutions being put in place.

Qualifications:

  • NVQ 2 in Highways Maintenance or similar
  • Skilled Road-worker Trades Test Assessment
  • New Roads and Streetworks Act (NRSWA) Qualification (Operative)
  • Accredited and relevant H&S Training Records and Certification (e.g. NPORS plant operator, Appointed Person, etc).
  • Valid driving licence
  • Valid Large Goods Vehicle Licence and CPC Trained with current DQC Card

Demonstrable evidence of the skills and experience as outlined below, together with a commitment to attain the essential qualifications.

Experience:

  • Working in a highways or civil engineering environment
  • Able to take measurements and calculate quantities e.g. areas, volumes and weights
  • Use of information technology (e.g. personal computer, PDS, mobile phones etc) in a work-related context
  • Use of underground detection equipment
