The Opportunity
Are you a detail-oriented individual looking to build a career in a high-tech, regulated laboratory? We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to join one of the world’s largest testing and certification providers. Working within the energy and commodities sector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and safety of global fuel supplies. This is a hands-on technical role offering full training, career stability, and the chance to work with industry-leading analytical equipment.
The Role
You will perform a variety of chemical and physical tests on crude oil, refined fuels, and lubricants. Your work ensures that these products meet strict international standards before they reach the consumer.
Key Responsibilities
- Analytical Testing: Conduct routine tests including Distillation, Flash Point, Viscosity, Density, and Sulfur analysis (XRF).
- Compliance: Follow strict ASTM, IP, and ISO testing methods to ensure 100% data accuracy.
- Quality Assurance: Work within an ISO 17025 accredited environment, maintaining precise records in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Lab Maintenance: Assist with the daily calibration and basic troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and clean specialized glassware.
- Sample Management: Efficiently receive, log, and prepare samples for testing, ensuring safe handling in line with COSHH regulations.
Candidate Requirements
- Education: A-Levels in Science, or an HNC/Degree in Chemistry or a related field (relevant lab experience will also be considered).
- Precision: High attention to detail and the ability to follow complex Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Manual Dexterity: Comfortable handling delicate glassware and sensitive technical equipment.
- IT Skills: Proficient in MS Office (Excel/Word) for data entry and reporting.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and occasional overtime/shifts to meet client turnaround times (TAT).
- Driving License: A full UK driving license is advantageous.
