The Warehouse Operative is responsible for supporting the safe, accurate, and efficient processing of parcels throughout the warehouse operation. Duties may include vehicle unsealing, unloading, parcel scanning, sorting, bagging, exception handling, loading, and dispatch activities. The role is critical in ensuring parcels move through the network accurately and on time while maintaining high standards of health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Inbound Operations
- Verify vehicle seal numbers against transport documentation and inspect for signs of tampering.
- Safely remove vehicle seals using approved equipment.
- Ensure inbound vehicles are correctly parked, secured, and safe to enter.
- Conduct trailer safety inspections before unloading.
- Unload parcels from trailers manually or using approved handling equipment.
- Place parcels onto conveyor systems with labels facing upwards to support scanning and sorting processes.
- Inspect trailers for damaged, leaking, or suspicious parcels and report issues immediately.
- Parcel Scanning
- Log into PDA devices and scanning equipment.
- Verify scanners and network connections are functioning correctly.
- Scan inbound and outbound parcels accurately.
- Ensure parcel data is uploaded successfully into warehouse management systems.
- Report scanning discrepancies and equipment faults.
- Sorting and Processing
- Open parcel bags, cages, and containers safely.
- Sort parcels to designated destinations according to routing information.
- Verify route labels and bag destinations.

- Exception and Returns Handling

- Record parcel exceptions using warehouse systems.
- Re-label parcels where required.
- Route exception and return parcels to designated processing areas.
- Return resolved parcels to the operational flow.
- Outbound and Loading Operations
- Move parcels, bags, and containers between operational areas.
- Prepare parcels for dispatch.
- Load outbound vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Ensure trailers are loaded according to operational requirements and safety standards.
- Conduct final trailer inspections prior to dispatch.
- Health, Safety and Compliance
- Follow all company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Wear required PPE at all times.
- Adhere to manual handling procedures and safe working practices.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area.
- Report accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, and security concerns.
- Support site security procedures and operational audits.
