We are seeking a skilled and motivated Commissioning Engineer to take responsibility for testing, balancing, troubleshooting and verifying the performance of HVAC and building services systems. You will ensure all systems meet project specifications, client expectations and relevant standards while maintaining the highest levels of safety and quality on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission and balance HVAC and building services systems including air and water systems.
- Maintain a detailed daily site diary recording events, site staff, key decisions and delays.
- Take ownership of site safety by implementing risk assessments, method statements and toolbox talks.
- Support project management teams to ensure successful and timely project completion.
- Liaise with other trades to coordinate commissioning and specialist works.
- Prepare project-specific method statements and ensure necessary approvals are obtained.
- Plan, programme and report on commissioning activities accurately and efficiently.
- Interpret electrical diagrams, schematics and control strategies.
- Monitor progress of related trades that may impact commissioning works.
- Conduct pre-work inspections and advise on system readiness and additional requirements.
- Carry out witness testing and manage completion certification processes.
- Ensure sufficient resources are available to meet project demands.
- Produce clear and concise technical reports and test documentation.
- Manage larger-scale projects and lead multiple commissioning teams.
- Represent the business at client, consultant and contractor meetings.
- Maintain awareness of contractual, commercial and quality policies.
- Apply comprehensive technical knowledge of air and water system commissioning and balancing.
- Work in accordance with relevant standards and guidelines such as: BSRIA BG 49 (Commissioning Air Systems), BSRIA BG 2 (Commissioning Water Systems), CIBSE Commissioning Codes A & W, CSA Commissioning Engineers Compendium.
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience commissioning building services systems (HVAC, water or M&E).
- Strong knowledge of commissioning standards, codes and best practices.
- Excellent communication, coordination and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience leading teams and managing multiple commissioning projects.
- Proficient in producing and maintaining technical documentation.
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel to project sites.
Qualifications
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
- Valid CSCS card and site safety training.
- CSA Grading (desirable).
