Lead Software Engineer – Defence Systems

Overview
<\/p>
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Software Engineer to take a pivotal role in the design, development, and delivery of advanced software solutions for the defence sector. This position involves both hands -on engineering and leadership responsibilities, ensuring that high -quality products and systems are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest technical standards.
<\/p>
Reporting to the Principal Engineer, you will define and implement software architectures, mentor a team of engineers, and collaborate with multi -disciplinary colleagues to translate complex requirements into innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities
<\/p>
- Own the quality of software outputs, reporting to the Project Technical Design Authority.
<\/li> - Provide accurate effort estimation, monitor progress, and ensure timely delivery in line with Project Manager expectations.
<\/li> - Define both architectural and detailed software designs as part of broader system definitions.
<\/li> - Collaborate with electronics and firmware engineers to ensure full system integration and compliance with requirements.
<\/li> - Lead design reviews, presenting to internal teams and external customers at all project stages.
<\/li> - Oversee compliance with project, company, and industry standards.
<\/li> - Manage and mentor the software team, ensuring efficient resource utilisation and development of team capability.

<\/p>Skills & Experience
<\/p>- Strong background in software architecture, detailed design, and implementation.
<\/li> - Proficiency in C++ with experience across Linux and Windows platforms.
<\/li> - Familiarity with IDE tools, version control, and structured V&V processes.
<\/li> - Track record of leading and mentoring software teams with effective technical and interpersonal skills.
<\/li> - Skilled in creating clear technical documentation and communicating with customers and stakeholders.
<\/li> - Experience with structured design tools (e.g., Enterprise Architect, UML -based design).
<\/li> - Experience with embedded and real -time application software.
<\/li> - Knowledge of acoustic signal processing and/or system integration and acceptance testing.
<\/li> - Experience with containerisation (e.g., Docker) is desirable.
<\/li><\/ul>
<\/p>Qualifications
<\/p>- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related discipline – or equivalent professional experience.
<\/li> - Eligible for UK Security Clearance (DV or SC).
<\/li> - Sole UK nationality.
<\/li> - Full UK driving licence.
<\/li> - Willingness to travel occasionally within the UK.

- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related discipline – or equivalent professional experience.
