Role Overview
Power Generation is scaling rapidly to meet surging demand for on-site power generation across the UK, Ireland, and beyond. The Senior Electrical Engineer leads design, development, and delivery of advanced electrical systems for backup power, hybrid generation, and energy storage solutions. This hands-on, customer-facing role influences product evolution, engineering best practices, and technical strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design of generator systems, control panels, switchgear, and integrated energy solutions.
- Develop detailed schematics, single line diagrams, protection schemes, and power distribution layouts.
- Conduct load analysis and fault level calculations.
- Provide technical leadership for hybrid systems including battery/supercapacitor storage, renewables, and peak-lopping.
- Oversee product compliance with relevant standards.
- Support factory/site acceptance tests and commissioning.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical/controls issues on customer sites.
- Guide junior engineers and deliver internal technical training.
- Collaborate with sales/project teams on technical proposals and architectures.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, documentation, and product quality.

Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- 7+ years in power generation, electrical distribution, switchgear, or similar sectors.
- Expert knowledge of LV/MV systems, protection theory, and generator controls.
- Strong understanding of embedded generation, harmonics, power quality, and system integration.
- Ability to produce high-quality engineering drawings and documentation.
- Experience with PLC systems, synchronisation, load-sharing, and genset controls (e.g., Deep Sea, ComAp, Woodward).
- Competent in 2D CAD.
- Proven track record managing deliverables in fast-paced projects.
- Excellent communication skills, including technical explanations to non-engineers.
Desirable
- Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership.
- Experience with energy storage (BESS/supercap), hybrid systems, or microgrids.
- Familiarity with CHP packages.
- Knowledge of backup systems for critical industries (data centres, utilities, manufacturing, emergency services).
