My client, a fast growing challenger bank, is looking for a Head of Credit & Model Risk Oversight to provide independent second line leadership, helping to shape a culture where risk is openly discussed, well understood and responsibly managed. This includes engaging effectively with key stakeholders, overseeing and maintaining the effectiveness of the risk management framework, and supporting the achievement of the bank's strategic objectives.
The role holder is responsible for providing oversight of Credit Risk and Model Risk Management, including in relation to PRA regulatory matters, and therefore exercises significant influence over the safe and sound operation of the Bank. In this role, you’ll provide oversight across secured lending products, including the Bank's SME and commercial lending portfolio, ensuring that credit and model risk frameworks remain robust, proportionate and fit for purpose as the Bank continues to grow.
You’ll work closely with colleagues across the business including Product, Lending, Finance and first line Risk teams offering thoughtful insight, constructive challenge and pragmatic support as new lending propositions are developed and existing products evolve. This includes supporting fair, sustainable outcomes for our customers across SME lending and secured lending portfolios, while balancing commercial ambition with sound risk management.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience- Essential
- Deep subject matter expertise in credit risk management, with experience across SME lending and commercial secured lending (including real estate) within a retail banking (or equivalent) environment
- Strong understanding of IFRS 9 and Basel impacts on credit risk management and credit modelling for secured and SME portfolios
- Subject matter expertise in model risk management, gained in a retail banking (or equivalent) setting
- Experience of engaging with regulatory bodies and presenting complex risk matters to Board and Executive‑level committees
- Experience operating independently to ‘Head of’ level within a second line (or equivalent) role
- Demonstrable technical knowledge of credit risk frameworks, policies and monitoring approaches for secured and SME lending
- Experience developing, implementing and enhancing model risk management frameworks
- Desirable
- Experience building or scaling a Credit Risk or Model Risk function
- Knowledge of model development techniques and programming languages such as Python
