We’re supporting the search for a Data Science Manager to join a high-performing Strategic Analytics team, helping shape how advanced analytics drives commercial decision-making across the business. This is an opportunity to take on a visible leadership role where you will combine technical data science expertise, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership to deliver predictive models and analytical insight that create real business impact.
Working closely with senior stakeholders, particularly across claims and wider business functions, you will identify opportunities where analytics can improve profitability, enhance decision-making, and support growth. You will also lead and develop data scientists, helping the team build innovative, best-in-class models and tools that provide a genuine competitive advantage.
The Opportunity
- Lead the development of advanced analytics and predictive modelling solutions that address real business challenges.
- Partner with senior stakeholders to understand priorities, shape analytical approaches, and translate insight into action.
- Oversee the design and deployment of models using a range of techniques including predictive modelling, machine learning, GLMs, GBMs, and NLP.
- Guide and mentor a growing team of data scientists and predictive modellers, supporting capability development and best practice.
- Explore internal and external data sources to generate insight and improve commercial performance.
- Help drive innovation across the analytics function by introducing new tools, techniques, and repeatable ways of working.
About You
- Strong experience in advanced analytics or data science, ideally with a background in insurance.
- Proven ability to build and implement statistical and predictive models using tools such as Python and SQL.
- Experience with machine learning techniques, data mining, and ideally NLP.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable working with ambiguity, solving complex problems, and managing multiple priorities.
- Experience leading, mentoring, or developing other data scientists would be highly beneficial.
- Exposure to cloud-based platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, or visualisation tools such as Power BI would be advantageous.
