JSS are supporting a leading banking institution in finding an experienced Interim Head of Financial Planning & Analysis to oversee its FP&A function. This role will provide strategic financial leadership, ensure high-quality forecasting and planning processes, and support executive decision-making while the organisation recruits permanently or undergoes structural change.
The ideal candidate has deep financial leadership experience within banking or financial services, with proven ability to operate at pace, manage complex stakeholder environments, and deliver robust insight in a regulated setting.
Responsibilities- Lead the FP&A function, ensuring timely, accurate, and insightful financial analysis to support strategic and operational decision-making.
- Partner with Risk, Treasury, and Regulatory Reporting teams to align planning assumptions and capital/liquidity considerations.
- Own the end-to-end budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning cycles.
- Provide high-quality financial insight and commercial recommendations to the CFO and Executive Committee.
- Oversee monthly performance reporting, including variance analysis, commentary, and identification of risks/opportunities.
- Drive improvements in financial reporting frameworks, dashboards, and MI packs to enhance business visibility.
- Act as a senior business partner to key banking divisions (Retail, Commercial, Treasury, Operations, Risk).
- Support leadership teams with scenario modelling, cost optimisation initiatives, and investment appraisal.
- Ensure FP&A outputs meet regulatory requirements and internal governance standards.
- Manage, mentor, and support the FP&A team, ensuring strong performance during the interim period.
- Identify skills gaps and drive process improvements to strengthen the function's long-term capability.
- Extensive FP&A leadership experience within banking or wider financial services.
- Strong technical background in budgeting, forecasting, planning, and financial modelling.
- Proven track record of partnering with senior executives, influencing decisions, and challenging constructively.
- Robust understanding of banking performance drivers (e.g., "NIM", loan loss provisioning, regulatory capital, liquidity metrics).
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and deliver outcomes quickly.
- Excellent communication skills with high commercial acumen.
- Experience as Head of FP&A, FP&A Director, or senior FP&A lead in a bank.
- Comfortable leading change, improving processes, and stabilising teams during transition.
