An exciting opportunity has arisen within a growing UK-based renewable energy organisation for an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller. The successful candidate will support the Finance Director in overseeing the organisation’s financial activities. This role plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, regulatory compliance, effective budgeting, and strategic financial planning. The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with strong leadership capabilities and the ability to contribute to senior-level decision-making.
About the Organisation
The organisation operates within the commercial and industrial renewable energy sector, managing a substantial and expanding portfolio of assets across the UK. It supplies renewable energy to a broad range of well-established corporate customers and is backed by long-term institutional investment. The business has ambitious growth plans, including expansion across wider European markets over the coming years.
The finance function is lean and collaborative, currently comprising a Finance Director, a financial reporting specialist, and an accounts assistant. This role represents the next strategic addition to the team.
- Oversee the TopCos by managing and supporting the internal group reporting accountant, ensuring adherence to all group reporting and statutory deadlines.
- Assist investors on all financial matters, including monthly and periodic group reporting.
- Oversee the assistant accountant in managing accounts payable and accounts receivable to ensure timely payments and receipts.
- Oversee a portfolio of SPVs by managing and supporting outsourced external accountants responsible for the maintenance and accuracy of financial records, including the timely preparation of management accounts and statutory accounts.
- Conduct monthly reviews of group consolidations, including analysis of financial data across multiple entities, identification of trends and key insights impacting investor and stakeholder reporting, and coordination with internal and external asset management teams.
- Liaise with auditors, tax advisors, and other external stakeholders.
- Ensure the timely preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns for the VAT groups.
- Act as the primary liaison for all banking matters.
- Support the deal team during the financial due diligence process for acquisitions and investments.
- Support the Finance Director in preparing and maintaining ongoing compliance and reporting for a variety of debt structures, including but not limited to asset-backed securities, revolving credit facilities, and project finance.
- Develop and maintain internal financial controls, monitoring systems for efficiency and accuracy.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis at a group level.
- Provide strategic financial guidance to senior management.
- Implement and support financial systems and reporting software upgrades as required.
