The Opportunity

Are you a commercially driven Business Development Manager with experience selling technical or engineered solutions into industrial markets? This is an opportunity to join an established, growing engineering business in the water treatment sector, with more than 30 years' experience designing and manufacturing specialist equipment for the UK market. The business combines the agility and entrepreneurial culture of an SME with the financial backing and resources of a larger group. Significant investment is being made to support the next phase of growth, including a new purpose-built manufacturing facility. They are now looking for an ambitious Business Development Manager to play a key role in driving that growth.

This is not simply an account-management position. You will have the opportunity to shape the sales strategy, identify new markets, win new business and help build a scalable commercial operation.

The Role

Reporting to the senior management team, you will own business development across defined markets, build relationships with new and existing customers, and convert opportunities into profitable revenue.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing the company's business development strategy
  • Identifying and winning new business opportunities across industrial and technical markets
  • Growing sales revenue while protecting margins
  • Building relationships with senior decision-makers and key customers
  • Developing new market sectors and identifying opportunities for further growth
  • Understanding customer requirements and helping develop new products and services
  • Working closely with operations and engineering teams on tenders, specifications, proposals and pricing
  • Supporting contract extensions, renewals and commercial negotiations
  • Developing the company's customer and sales database
  • Monitoring competitor activity, market trends, legislation and emerging technologies
  • Positioning the business as a preferred supplier within target markets
  • Working towards and exceeding agreed sales targets

About You

We're looking for someone who is commercially hungry, credible with senior customers and capable of opening doors and winning business. You'll ideally have:

  • Proven B2B business development or technical sales experience
  • Experience selling engineered, technical or industrial solutions
  • Ideally, knowledge of the water treatment, wastewater or environmental sector
  • Experience selling into manufacturing, process, industrial, healthcare or pharmaceutical environments
  • A strong track record of identifying and converting new business
  • The confidence and gravitas to engage with senior stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • A self-starting, entrepreneurial approach
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
  • The ability to manage your own workload, prioritise opportunities and deliver against targets
  • A genuine desire to help build and grow a business

Why Join?

This is a genuine opportunity to join a business at an exciting stage of its development. You'll have the backing, resources and technical capability of a larger group, while retaining the freedom, influence and entrepreneurial environment you'd expect from a smaller engineering business. With significant investment being made into the company's facilities, technology and market development, there is plenty of scope for the successful candidate to make their mark and play a major role in the next phase of growth.

Package

  • £50,000 – £70,000 basic salary, depending on experience
  • 2% bonus on new business generated
  • Permanent position
  • UK-based role with travel as required
  • Opportunity to influence and shape the commercial strategy
  • Significant long-term growth opportunity
