My client is seeking an experienced and motivated Bat Ecologist or Senior Bat Ecologist to join their growing team. Due to an increasing portfolio of complex and high-profile bat projects, this is an excellent opportunity for a specialist looking to develop their career within a supportive and technically strong environment. You will work closely with a highly experienced Lead Bat Ecologist and contribute to a wide range of projects across multiple sectors, with opportunities to engage in broader ecological work if desired.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver and manage bat-focused ecological projects
- Undertake a range of bat surveys including:
- Preliminary Roost Assessments (PRAs)
- Activity surveys
- Tree assessments
- Manage and deploy bat survey equipment
- Analyse bat data, including acoustic datasets
- Produce high-quality technical reports (e.g. survey reports, EcIA, EPS licence applications)
- Liaise directly with clients and stakeholders
- Support project coordination and tender submissions (Senior level)
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to team development
Requirements
Essential:
- Relevant degree in ecology or related discipline
- Membership of CIEEM
- Minimum 3 years’ consultancy experience (5+ for Senior role)
- Bat survey licence from Natural England (Level 1–2+)
- Strong knowledge of UK bat species and survey methodologies
- Experience in bat report writing and data analysis
- Understanding of relevant legislation and best practice guidance
Desirable:
- Experience working under EPS licences
- Bat handling experience
- Tree climbing and aerial inspection skills
- Bat acoustics analysis certification
